The proposal of operation razor

Postby Gaming from beyond » Sun Jun 05, 2016 9:52 pm

Since sega united will be a bigger and more powerful replacement of project dream, what type of propsal should operation razor do that project dream never did and what ideas should the team try to gain massive supporters?

To sell console and make profit of them you need to bring games onto it, that is very hard and that is why Sega now is mostly making games for other stable platforms.

Making console similar to PS4 is almost impossible because of PS4 domination in market, and there is also very good Microsoft with XboxOne, as we can see Nintendo with NX is trying different philosophy to stay in console market.

To sell hardware, Sega could try with "Segabox"-hybrid PC with Sega OS, and with possible implementation of Gnu-Linux, Windows and Android platform installation.

In order to make new console successful it needs to be pretty cheap, have many unique games but also 3rd party support.
So going for x86 APU would really make sense. Obviously good on-line capabilities and online store is also important.

But the most important thing is to have many great GAMES, GAMES, GAMES.

SEGA will have to back the project up with game licenses or GAMES.

Maybe creating a console with only online games distribution would make sense as well.

To be cheap with X86 APU they need big selling numbers, that also means big Sega starting support(R&D, marketing) and that can also attract 3rd party support.

For big AAA games using only online distribution of games is not so good (internet speed around world), removing Blu Ray player and using (cartridge or something similar) could help with cheaper version of console and also help to have smaller installs on hard drive.

Microsoft philosophy to make Xbox One as cheap entry gaming PC-console based on their Win10 platform is great solution(competing with Sony) to sell big numbers of hardware and also software will follow as they will be unified Windows platform, that is also one of the saving solutions to "stay big" along Sony in gaming industry.

-Sony PS4-Neo is classic console and it will stay that way and no one can compete with them in that classical console way.

-Xbox One-Mini-Scorpio goes into console-PC Win10 field, wich will help Xbox sales and Win10 platform.

-Nintendo NX is trying someting new to make big numbers and with their big 1st party support that helps them alot.

-Is there much space for Sega to mix between those big 3, it all depends on money and creativity.

Sega "all in one" console-PC

-hardware similar to Steamboxes, USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt 3 ports(maybe later graphics hardware upgrade, VR and external HDD connections)
-1tb HDD, 500gb locked Sega OS(only 1st and 3rd party Sega games),
500gb unlocked classic PC
-no Blu Ray drive(cheaper console), maybe Sega cartridge system
(smaller HDD installs and faster reading)
-keyboard and mouse support

This kind of console-PC system could attract many users because it implements Sega console and also classic PC in one box.

Hello and welcome to the Community!

I am the Owner and Administrator of this site. User IAMSEGA is Operation Razor's Manager and Lead Director.

We will be debuting our trailer at E3 at the Guerrilla Marketing Indie booth next to Atlus USA on June 15th.

Unfortunately, OR is not proposing a PC hybrid to SEGA at all. The Manager of OR and the group have decided and agreed on what type console and what type of hardware chipset that will be proposed to them.

The ISA will not be x86. Instead it'll be something cheaper, more efficient, and more more faster and powerful. It's one you probably never heard of or remember.

Thanks for your welcome message and introduction into Operation Razor.

If it is not x86 it could be RISC design, but we dont need to discuss those details on forum, you already said a lot about main design.

What is the main target and path of new console, going into Indie gaming platform or mixing with big 3?

Can't confirm our target market yet. After E3, you'll find out.
